Ever wish for an extra set (or two) of grandparents? We’ve got just the class for you.
Generations is a Mixed-Age Music Together® class with a heartwarming twist: senior participants join the fun! These intergenerational classes bring babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and their grown-ups together with seniors at an assisted living community for a joyful, shared musical experience.
Just as in Music Together’s regular Mixed-Age classes, Generations classes are designed to be interactive music-making experiences for little ones and their grownups— from playful free movement to full-on instrument jams— but the circle is expanded to include a group of Grandfriends. Everyone participates at their own level: singing, moving, listening, watching, or exploring instruments.
From 2016 to 2019, Music Together of Decatur offered Generations classes, and we saw firsthand the deep connections and lasting benefits they created for children, parents, seniors, and staff alike. When the pandemic paused the program, we knew it wasn’t goodbye, so long, farewell—it was just until we could make music together again.
Now, we're thrilled to return to Benton House of Decatur and bring this special class back to life. There’s truly nothing like the magic of making music across generations. We can’t wait to welcome new families into this unique, uplifting experience.
